This 10 days program,
travel from bustling, energetic Saigon through the lush Mekong Delta,
cross into Cambodia by speedboat and experience life along one of Asia’s
longest rivers. Travel further upstream to Phnom Penh before ending your
journey in Siem Reap, home to the world famous UNESCO site, Angkor Wat.
Day 1: Arrival Ho
Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Arrive in Saigon, the pearl of Indochina
and the economic capital of Vietnam, home to six million inhabitants.
At Tan Son Nhat
Airport, you will be greeted by our guide and then transferred to your
hotel. Enjoy Vietnamese dinner. Overnight in Saigon.
Day 2: Saigon -
Tay Ninh - Cu Chi Tunnels - Saigon
Excursion to Tay Ninh and visit to the
surprising Cao Dai Temple, a synthesis of Buddhism, Confucianism,
Christianity and other religions, as well as celebrating the French
author Victor Hugo! Lunch in Tay Ninh. Departure for Cu Chi and visit of
this unexpected network of tunnels, 200km long, which constituted at the
end of the 1960s a refuge for Northern soldiers. Dinner and overnight in
Saigon.
Day 3: Saigon -
Vinh Long - Can Tho
Transfer to Can Tho. While passing through
Vinh Long by boat, you will encounter numerous orchards of mangoes,
rambutans, mandarins and will get to taste first-hand these delicious
tropical fruits. Lunch in
a traditional house. Can Tho, the "capital of the Mekong delta," is
picturesque with its water canals that are used as means of
transportation. You will soak in the entire atmosphere of Southern
Vietnam: water and rice. Dinner and overnight in Can Tho.
Day 4: Can Tho -
Chau Doc
Another discovery in the Mekong Delta: the
floating markets. You will wake up early to visit the floating market of
Cai Rang where a great variety of fruits and vegetables found in the
region are sold. From Can Tho, you will travel the colorful road to the
bustling river town of Chau Doc. Take a short trip to the Sam Mountain
for impressive views over Cambodia and the Delta before enjoying some
local cuisine. Overnight in Chau Doc.
Day 5: Chau Doc -
Phnom Penh by Express Boat
After a half day riding the boat along the
Mekong River, you will arrive in Phnom Penh at lunch time. After
check-in, visit the Silver Pagoda, the Independence Monument and Royal
Palace before returning to the hotel to have dinner. Overnight in Phnom
Penh.
Day 6: Phnom Penh
- Kompong Thom
After an early pick up depart for Kompong
Thom (about 110km from Phnom Penh). Upon arrival in Kampong check in at
the hotel and then leave for the Sambo Prey Kob Temple, the capital of
the once powerful empire of Chenla that predates the Khmer Angkor
period. Overnight in Kompong Thom.
Day 7: Kompong
Thom - Siem Reap (Temples of Angkor)
Today we drive towards Siem Riep (about 150
km). The road conditions are very poor, but the spectacular scenery of
the ancient ruins, with a mixture of temples and forest makes the trip
worthwhile. We then continue our journey to Siem Reap. This town is our
base for visiting the world famous temples of the ancient city Angkor,
home for the capital of the powerful Khmer Empire, which dates from 802
AD to 1350 AD. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 8: Temples of
Angkor
Full day exploring the wondrous ancient
ruins with the South Gate of Angkor Thom, famous for its series of
colossal human faces carved in stone, the impressive Bayon Temple, the
Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the
Leper King and the largest as well as most complete structure of Angkor
Wat which was built by King Suryavarman II in the middle of the 12th
century over a period of about 30 years. A view of the spectacular
contrasting colors of the sunset over these sandstone monuments is a
perfect way to finish the day. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 9: Temples of
Angkor
Explore the magical beauty of Siem Riep by
visiting the Temple of Ta Prohm, with enormous fig trees and gigantic
creepers embracing the stone foundations of the structure. It gives the
impression of man's creation being reclaimed by the powerful forces of
nature. We explore this masterpiece as well as its surrounding temples
of Banteay Kdei, Sra Srong, Ta Keo, Thommanon, Chau Say Tevado. The
grand circuit includes Preah Khan, the Kravan, Neak Pean, Krol Ko, Ta
som, East Mebon, Pre Rub Temple is also visited, this afternoon before
we walk up to Phnom Bakheng hill for a view of the sunset. Overnight in
Siem Reap.
Day 10: Leave Siem
Reap
Free at leisure until time of departure. |
