This 10 day program
leads you to visit former battlefields where some of the war’s fiercest
firefights took place between American Army and Vietnamese Army. Go
cruising in the Mekong Delta, take a dragon boat on the Perfume River
and relax on China Beach.
Day
1: Arrival Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon)
Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City
and meet at Tan San Nhat International Airport, where most American
personnel landed before 1975. Transfer to downtown for hotel check-in.
Half day city tour visiting historic landmarks including the old Saigon
Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral, the former Presidential Palace, War
Remnants Museum and Chinatown. Dinner on boat along Saigon river and
overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
Day
2: Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh Long - Can Tho
Transfer to Vinh Long by
coach with stop en route at Dong Tam snake farm, the former base of the
US 9th Division and Riverine units, then visit Ap Bac village - site of
a ground battle between the independence guerillas and ARVN (Army of
Republic of Vietnam).
Upon arrival at Cai Be, take a motorized sampan to see the colorful
floating market, and visit a popcorn and rice paper-making village.
Visit to bonsai gardens and orchards. Transfer to Can Tho. Overnight in
Can Tho.

3: Can Tho - Ho Chi Minh City
Boat ride to Cai Rang & Phong
Dien floating markets where the local people gather on the river to
trade fuit and vegetables and other farm products. Return to Ho Chi Minh
City.
Day
4: Ho Chi Minh City - Hue
Early morning flight to Hue,
the former Imperial Capital of Vietnam. Take a boat ride on the Perfume,
then visit Thien Mu pagoda. Drive to the Imperial Citadel, site of a
bloody street battle between the NVA (North Vietnamese Army) and the US
Marine Corps during the Tet Offensive of 1968. Lunch is at the home of a
former Imperial princess, Lac Tinh Vien. Afternoon, visit the Tu Duc
royal tomb, Khai Dinh royal tomb and the Dong Ba market. Enjoying Hue
lantern dinner (imperial dinner with royal costumes) is optional.
Overnight in Hue.
Day
5: Hue - DMZ - Hue
Early morning departure for
the former D. M. Z (Demilitarized Zone). Places of military significance
in the area include the former American Marine base of Khe Sanh, the
Rock Pile, Camp Carol, Dakrong suspension bridge, Tacon airfield, Lang
Vay special forces camp and Hamburger Hill along Highway 9. Lunch at a
Khe Sanh restaurant. Visit the Truong Son cemetery, McNamara’s electric
fence and the Ben Hai 17th parallel dividing the North and the South. On
the way back, stop at the old citadel of Quang Tri, site of a violent
battle during the NVA Easter offensive of 1972. Drive back to Hue.
Overnight in Hue.
Day
6: Hue - Da Nang
Morning, leave Hue for Da
Nang with a stop at Camp Eagle near Phu Bai airbase, the former US
Special Forces base. Drive over Hai Van Pass with its spectacular
panorama of the coastline. Descend towards Da Nang past the beach where
the US Marines landed in 1965. Visit the Marble Mountains, which
concealed a cave that provided a safe sanctuary for the guerillas during
the war. Then visit China Beach. Transfer to the hotel with a stop at
the former US airbase and depot on the way. The balance of the afternoon
is free for relaxation on the beach. Overnight in Da Nang.
Day
7: Da Nang - Pleiku
Flight to Pleiku in the
Central Highlands, considered a strategically important position by the
US military. After check-in the hotel, drive south to Ham Rong pass and
Camp Enari, former headquarters of the 4th Infantry Division. Lunch at
local restaurant. Drive to Cacteka plantation, Pleime and Bau Can, the
4th Division’s former operational areas. Drive back to the hotel for
dinner. Overnight in Pleiku.
Day
8: Pleiku
Morning drive to Dak To to
visit the former airbase of the 4th Division, Charlie Hill.
Dak To was the site of
heavy conflicts between the NVA and the 4th Division along the Ho Chi
Minh and Sihanouk trails. After lunch at a local restaurant, drive back
to Pleiku with visit to Camp Halloway and a Banar montagnard village.
Drive back to Pleiku for the night. Dinner and overnight in Pleiku.
Day
9: Pleiku - Ho Chi Minh City - Cu Chi Tunnels - Ho Chi Minh City
Flight to Ho Chi Minh City.
From the airport, proceed to the famous Cu Chi tunnels, an important
base during the American War because of its strategic location.
The Viet Cong built a
200km long network of tunnels connecting command posts, hospitals,
shelters and weapon factories. It is dug by hand tools without the use
of cement. A continuation to visit Great Temple of Caodaism. Lunch at
Ngoc Tuyet restaurant. Drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. Overnight in Ho
Chi Minh City.
Day
10: Ho Chi Minh - Departure
Free at leisure or go
shopping until time transfer to airport for departure. |
